Breast cancer is the seventh leading cause of death for American women. More than 40,000 women die of breast cancer every year. It is the most common cancer found among women, and one in every eight women will have it at some point in their lives.
Breast cancer is dangerous because it can spread to other parts of the body and infect important organs. If breast cancer is diagnosed early enough, it can be prevented from spreading and that makes it a very easily controlled and non-life-threatening cancer.
Awareness can lead to prevention, that’s why October is considered the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The more educated we are, the more opportunities we have to fight this particular form of cancer. One of the most significant actions a person can take is a self-breast exam.
