Miners Belt Buckles

Site of the worst gold mining disaster in California history. On August 27,1992, a fire and cave-in trapped 47 miners. It took over two days for the fire to be extinguished. Rescuers reopened tunnels between the Kennedy Mine and Argonaut, but it took three weeks to reach their brethren. As oxygen dwindled, Argonaut miner Edward Fessel, using lamp black from his miner's lamp, scrawled on a rock wall:"3 o'clock, gas getting strong." Another miner scratched:"3:15,half knocked out." Fessel made a final entry on August 28:"4 o'clock", nothing more. The 47 miners paid the ultimate toll demanded of those who delve in the earth for gold; but the heroic valor of their brethren miners above exemplifies the spirit of Friendship, Loyalty and Charity. Miners Belt Buckles are commemorated for the accident . Miners Belt Buckles are crafted by antique silver .
